LORAC PRO Palette 2 with Primer and PRO Mascara Swatches

Story time! I was at Ulta a couple weeks ago to pick up a few drugstore basics. I couldn't help but drift over to the higher end section though to drool over the new LORAC PRO Palette 2. I love the first one and I'd been itching to get the second one. The colors are beautiful and that navy blue! Ugh. So I went over there and swatched and felt the buttery soft textures and saw the amazing pigmentation and fell so deeply in love. I immediatly picked one up off the display, but then my brain reminded me that I've been trying to be a little more financially responsible lately and I don't need to buy this right now. I can ask for it for Christmas, I told myself. I sighed, put it back and walked away.

Flash forward to last week when I was browsing through Facebook and stumbled upon a post from Nouveau Cheap. If you don't follow her blog, you really need to. Not only is she my go-to source for all the new drugstore products but she shares when there are good deals on high-end products. This post told me I could get the LORAC PRO Palette 2, a primer and a full-size mascara for $22. Yes. $22. So naturally I had to see what this was all about. Turns out HSN was bundling this all together for $42, but if you're a first-time shopper on the website there was a coupon code that got you $20 off your first purchase. How in all that is good and wonderful in the world of makeup could I pass that up?! I just love when a good deal comes together.

FYI, the deal is still available and back in stock! For more information check out the updated post on Nouveau Cheap.

Needless to say, I was VERY excited when that package arrived on my desk at work yesterday. I could hardly wait to get home and see it in all of its glory.

The palette itself is made of the same material and is the same size as the first PRO palette, which is perfect since it's not bulky at all and is perfectly simple. This palette, even though it didn't seem to pick up on camera even with all these other black products around it, is gray.

As with the first palette, the top row is all matte colors and the bottom row are the metallic/shimmery colors. The color selection in here is amazing. The blue is hands down my favorite as I am a complete sucker for navy blue eyeshadows though none ever seem to live up to my expectations. I'm excited to play with it and see how it holds up. The color Rose (third in from the left on the bottom) is STUNNING. I love the Jade color and Nectar. Just all of them are perfection.

I really love how much they changed the palettes, too. The only overlap in either palette is Black and even the lighter, more basic neutral matte colors are different. There is a distinct difference between Cream (1) and Buff (2) but it's nice to have a color like that in both palettes. The only thing I will say is that the first palette seems a lot more cohesive than the second palette, which isn't a good or bad thing. It just makes things a little easier if you're a beginner to makeup or someone who really only wears neutrals to grab that first palette and make it your go-to. The second palette has more colors to have fun with.

Now onto swatches!

As always, the light skin tone color will not show up on my skin no matter what I do. I really tried to layer it up but it just wasn't having it. All the other shadows, however, are perfection. The texture is silky perfection and the pigmentation is once again on point. In my opinion and from my limited dealings with this palette in action, there isn't a dud in the bunch.

The palette comes with a trial-size primer which the first did as well if I'm not mistaken. One can never have enough primers so I'll take it!

And to round out the set is the PRO Mascara. I've never tried their mascara before so I'm excited to give it a go.

As you can see, the brush is a teardrop shape with it larger towards the barrel and narrows out at the tip. It's nice to have the narrow tip so you can easily get to those smaller, tricky lashes that we all have, as well as help out with the bottom lashes.

So that's everything in the set. I am beyond pumped to play with this for the next week or so and get back to you all with my lookbook and review. As for now, I'm going back to cheering for Roger Federer and hanging out with the kits.
