Birchbox Review: POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer

Happy Halloween!  Hope you're all having a good day full of sugary treats!  I know I have a stomach ache already from everything and I haven't even started handing out candy yet, which is my moments of weakness.

I'm here (a day late) with my Birchbox Review of the week, and this one is for the POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer.

The applicator is actually kind of interesting in that it's like a little spatula.  It's a flat plastic applicator that is rectangular in shape and you just shalack that stuff on the lips.  I can't say that I've ever used anything like it but it worked pretty well.  It kind of keeps you from applying too much since it doesn't soak into the doe-foot applicator.

The formula is sticky.  Very, very sticky.  I feel a little bit of the tingly sensation as well but it doesn't last too long.

The color is incredibly sheer.  I have pinkish lips naturally so, on me, the color only shows up a little bit.  I haven't tried it over a nude lipstick but it might show up a little better.

Overall I don't feel that this is something I would reach for on a daily basis as I'm not a big fan of really sticky formulas.  I tend to like the slippery glosses much better.  Lip gloss formula is very subjective so this could very well be your thing.

Review: L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly

Good Monday!  Hope you all had a great weekend!

So I have been obsessed with this mascara lately and I needed to share.  This is a newer mascara by L'Oreal.  I found mine in Wal Mart but I saw it at Target today.  It's starting to pop up.

The brush is interesting in that it has an angled side and a regular side.

The idea behind this is that the angle helps to sweep all the lashes out to the corner to give it that swept up look that you can get with a lot of falsies.

Here is me with no mascara on:

And here is the after:

OHMYGOODNESS!!!  Look at that length!!!  Does it give that side-swept look that it claims it will give?  Not really, but I don't really care.  That is some fantastic mascara!  It doesn't feel clumpy or stiff either and it wears fine on me all day.  I haven't had any issues with flaking in my experiences with this.  I usually use about two coats on the top and one on the bottom for my perfect coating.

Bottom line, I'm in love.  Drugstores really have some amazing mascaras and this is no exception!

Unboxing: Loot Crate

Oh man, so I know I literally just posted but I wanted to do my Loot Crate unboxing! Also, I'm doing this from my phone so sorry if it looks weird!

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box focusing on the geeky crowd, which is totally me. I don't read a ton of comic books but I do read them. I'm always super excited for the new superhero movies. I enjoy getting involved in video games. It's all good! So I knew when I saw this I needed to give this a try. It is a little pricier than the beauty boxes I get but not too much. This one is $20 but you pay for the shipping. I think they send it expedited though since I got mine two days after I got the shipping notification and they ship from LA and I live in NJ. Totally not complaining about the paying for shipping.

But enough rambling, let's get to the goods!

Birchbox Review: Benefit FakeUp

Up until recently, the only Benefit products I really knew were their mascaras.  In fact, I think that their BADgal mascara was the first drug counter makeup that I was swindeled into buying at Macy's. But since I joined these subscription services and was awarded the opportunity to hold a Lash Bash I have been able to experience all sorts of new Benefit products.

In this month's Birchbox I was able to give FakeUp a try!

Crafty: DIY kate spade Fish Bowl

A couple weeks ago I was browsing the kate spade website and came across this adorable bowl.

credit:  katespade.com

I fell in love with it immediately.  I mean, is that not the cutest thing ever?!  The price tag, however, was not something to fall in love with at a steep $60.  For something that would probably just be holding some fake flowers I didn't think I needed to be spending that much money.  Luckily, I like to think I'm pretty crafty so I decided to make my own!

Review: Revlon ColorBurst Matte and Lacquer Balms

Happy Monday!  Hope you're all having a wonderful day.  One thing that I love about Fall besides the obvious is that a bunch of new products seem to be coming onto drugstore shelves much more frequently.  There's a lot that I've picked up so I should be rolling a lot of reviews out, starting with the new Revlon lip products!

Birchbox Review: Chap Stick Hydration Lock

I'm here with my first Birchbox review for the October box.  This was their Birchbox Find and is the Chap Stick Hydration Lock.

I used this Chap Stick as a primer in the morning.  I would put it on before I started doing my makeup and let it sit until right before I left for work, which is generally when I apply my lip products since it makes no sense to apply before I eat breakfast and have my coffee.  This generally would give it a "sitting time" of an hour and a half.

I definitely found that it made the texture of my lips smoother, however, once my lip product was on, the texture would go back to what it was prior to the application of the Chap Stick as opposed to maintaining the way it had been.

The same can be said for the fuller-looking appearance.  When I was wearing only the Chap Stick my lips would be noticeably fuller, but once I applied another product they would look normal again.  This isn't a huge disappointment for me as I don't really feel that I need lip plumping products but wanted to mention it since it could be a breaking point for someone else.

The formula was very slippery and waxy feeling, which I haven't really found with too many other Chap Stick products, although admittedly I really only use their medicated products so that could be why.  I suppose the more waxy consistency could be attributed to the moisture feature.

Speaking of the moisture, I didn't really feel that it lasted 8 hours.  My lips are necessarily dry by nature but I didn't find that this really helped moisturize them for a prolonged period of time.

The scent was pleasant unless you're not a fan of vanilla.  It wasn't something that lingered around either, so if you're sensitive to scent it shouldn't be too bothersome.

Overall I didn't think it was a bad product on its own, but when you mix it with others that's when the effects seem to wear off.  I don't know that it's something I would necessarily repurchase but I will certainly continue to use the rest of the product.

October Birchbox

I'm back AGAIN.  This is a record.  Ohemgee.  More importantly, I'm back with a Birchbox unboxing, which I don't feel like I've done in forever!

This month's theme was Beauty Buzz!

Crafty: Glitter Skull

When the holiday season rolls around I get so craft inspired.  Everything that I look at is inspiration and I get literal anxiety when I'm sitting at work because all I want to do is craft!  I actually found a t-shirt on Pinterest that sums up how I want my life to be:

I just want to drink coffee, create stuff, and sleep

But unfortunately that doesn't pay the bills.  Sigh.

Anyway.  My boyfriend and I were at Target stalking all the Halloween stuff a couple weeks ago and they had these awesome drink mixes, but the bottles were these huge skulls.

These looked really neat on their own but I knew they could be something more, and I knew that something more would be super glittery.  I played around with it that night but I didn't love how it turned out.  It was the first time that I was using Pledge as my glitter adhesive so I thought maybe I had got the wrong kind.  It was sticking in very spotty and blotchy areas.  At first I was going to leave it because it kind of looked like mold which could work for Halloween, but the more I looked at it the more I hated it so I knew I needed to redo it.

This is what I ended up with and I'm so happy to have redone it because it looks SO much better!

Yep.  SO much better.  I used the Pledge FloorCare Multisurface and a couple different shades of green Martha Stewart glitter.  It worked like a dream this time, possibly because I washed the skull out a little bit better and let it dry as opposed to jumping right in.  I just poured the Pledge into the skull, swished it around for a while until I felt that the inside was evenly and thoroughly covered.  I poured out any excess Pledge left in the skull and then I poured a good amount of glitter and rotated the skull around to coat the inside!  I started with a darkish green, then used a turquoiseish color and then a lighter lime green color to give it a bit more of a multi-dimensional effect.

I popped some black fake roses in there to give it a little extra something something (and to add some creepy credibility to my otherwise super cute Halloween decorations).

The skull cost $8.99 I believe, but I'm sure they'll probably be on clearance closer to Halloween!  And truthfully I think they're pretty cool for all year round.  I have another one hanging around and I'm debating if I want to do another Halloween type or if I want to try to make one for all year display.  Sometimes crafting decisions are the hardest decisions to make.

P.S. - On a random note, Macaroni is a fetcher by nature but she just started fetching straws like a dog fetches sticks and it is so adorable.  If I can catch it on camera I certainly will!  She gets camera shy.

Swatches: Twinkle Twinkle by Profusion

Happy Sunday!  Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

Last night I stopped off at Walgreens on one of my many weekly drugstore stalking excursions.  So many amazing collections are coming out that I can't wait to get my hands on!  I didn't find any of them (sadface) but a lot of the holiday kits are coming out that they stick up in the area they reserve for the limited edition collections.  I was looking through when I noticed these five-pan palettes for $1.00 each.  Figuring that if they were bad at least I wasn't breaking the bank, I decided to pick them up.  There were four that I found.  Today I decided to play and swatch and I wanted to share since I'm pretty impressed!

Crafty: Wine Glasses

What's this?  Two blog posts in two days?!  Why yes, yes it is.  I have better pictures of this that I may add to this post at some point [10/07/13 Added!] but since I have a lot of things coming up and some products waiting in the wings that I want to review or at least do a whole post about, I just wanted to get this up since I think it's worthy of its own post!

As I mentioned in earlier posts, I was lucky enough to have been picked by ipsy and Benefit Cosmetics to host a Lash Bash at my home.  The party was essentially to introduce people to Benefit's products, namely their They're Real Mascara.  I decided I wanted to do a little craft for my girlfriends to take home with them along with all their free makeup so I made these!

I loved how they all came out, plus I think it's such a nice way to make sure no one gets their glasses mixed up.  Not to mention that these were easy to make and only took about three hours to do.  I thought they would take longer but nope!

To start, I bought the wine glasses.  These are all from the Dollar Tree and obviously were $1.00 each.  Then I picked up my paints from AC Moore.  I used FolkArt paints in Pure Gold and Brilliant Pink.  I also got a pack of random brushes to use.

I applied about three coats of the Pure Gold color to the base of the glass with the widest, flattest brush in the pack.

I painted them one-by-one and by the time I would get done with the last glass, the first one was dry and ready for another coat.  I did experience a little lift once I went in with the third coat but nothing too severe.

After the third coat was applied, I went in and wrote the names on the glass using the Brilliant Pink color and a script brush.

I did have to go over the names a couple times to get them as bright as I wanted them, maybe three coats on that as well.

Then I went around the name with the gold and that was two coats of paint.

Finally, I used a pencil eraser to dot on the polka dots around the bottom.  I was going to go all the way up and around but I liked the look of having them only on the bottom.

And that's it!  Super duper easy and, at least I think, a cute little keepsake!

Review: ELF Ursula Palette

Ugh, long time no blog!  I am THE WORST.  I have plenty to blog about, too!!  I've given up on my weekly healthy living blogs (obviously!) because it made me so obsessed with gaining like ounces, or a pound.  That's not healthy.  It happens to EVERYONE.  So I'm taking a break.

Anyway, I have a review!  Woohoo!  ELF is at it again this Halloween with putting out Disney Villain makeup palettes.  Last year they only had three but this year they have four, adding Ursula to the mix!  Since I got all three palettes last year and wasn't overly impressed I decided to only get one this year (but don't get me wrong, I wanted all of them because the art is STUNNING).  Being that I had the Evil Queen, Maleficent and Cruella already, I opted for the Ursula one.  These palettes are $9.99 and exclusive to Walgreens and there also is an ELF nail polish set, SOHO makeup bags, Ardell lashes and Goody hair ties with all four villains in each collection.  I got the Evil Queen makeup bag and I love the artwork!
