Maybelline & Sally Hansen Swatchfest

Even though I vow to myself every now and again that I'm not going to buy more makeup for a little while, I inevitably end up buying makeup anyway.  I get caught up in the fall limited edition stuff and I'm a sucker for the Maybelline Color Tattoos and the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows so whenever new ones are out I'm all over them!  So this post will bring some swatches of the limited edition Color Tattoos that I found as well as some nail polishes that I'm in love with!

First up, here are the nail polishes. This one is from the Maybelline Fall 2012:  Scene on the Runway collection and is called Boho Gold:

It was really hard to actually capture how gorgeous this color is because it takes on a different hue depending on how much light you have.  If you're under full, bright light, it's really gold.  When you're under low light it takes on that blueish tone.  When I initially put it on I liked it but wasn't in love with it because I wasn't seeing the dimension that I saw in the bottle, but then when I took a shower and was in really low light I noticed how much dimension actually transitioned over with it.  I think this is going to be one of my go-to colors for fall and I've actually been out trying to find a backup bottle!

The next color is from Sally Hansen and is called Gilded Lily:

All I can say about this polish is WOW.  I am beyond in love.  I think this might be as close to a foil manicure as you can get without actually getting one.  This is three coats of polish.  I probably could have stopped at two but I wanted a little more oomf and I got it!  It's such a striking color.

The next batch are the Maybelline Color Tattoos.  I have a bunch of the ones from the permanent collection but I love adding them to my own collection since they make such great bases.  I can't say that I've ever worn one alone for the day but they definitely add some pop. All swatches are done without primer as they are intended to be worn.

First are the two I got from the Fall 2012 collection.

This one is called Barely Beige and is a skin-tone color with a hint of shimmer.  I'm incredibly fair so it really would work well to serve the purpose of a base for a neutral look but for anyone darker this would probably actually show up on your skin as a color.

This is called Mossy Green and is a gold-based green.  I love green, especially dark green and especially in the fall but I'm not in love with how this performs.  It's a little patchy.  I'm sure that with some work and maybe a primer it could work a little better but having just done the swatch I wasn't impressed.  If you're a green lover I think it's definitely something to pick up because it could pair well with other shadows and give a great depth but it probably wouldn't perform too well on its own.

These next ones were from a different limited edition display I found at Target that had coordinating Great Lash mascaras.  They had a purple and a teal as well but I passed on both due to not loving the performance of the prior purple in the Color Tattoo family and already having the other teal color.

This is Ready, Set, Green and is a beautiful jade green.  Again, I love green and this is stunning in the container.  I think this one could probably use a little TLC while applying and possibly a primer but it is a very beautiful color.  The texture is incredibly creamy which I'm still not sure is a good or bad thing but if built up properly, I think this could a great addition to a green look.

This last color is called Blue on By and is a jewel-toned true blue.  Again, the texture on this was super creamy and kind of resulted in a patchy application when I swatched but I really am trying to have faith in these and hope that some primer will make it as spectacular as I want it to be.

And that's all for today.  I did get another Maybelline nail polish but I have it on my toes and no one loves feet so I don't want to gross anyone out with pictures of my toes lol So I will be sure to actually wear that color on my hands and grab a picture!

I'm hoping for my next post to be of more wreaths.  I made one for my friend Ashley's new house and I'm working on another one for my boyfriend so I will post the finished products within the next few days.
